Planning your week day by day

The Collaboard template has two parts. On the left are three areas for to-dos, goals and important things, each with its own deck of notes in orange, blue-grey or green. On the right is a week view with fields for month, week and year, one column per day from Monday to Sunday and a notes area at the bottom.

What is a weekly planner?

A weekly planner organizes tasks, goals and appointments across one week. The Collaboard template combines an overview of everything that needs doing with a day-by-day view, so you can decide not only what to do, but also when.

The areas of the template

The examples follow one illustrative scenario: a project manager planning a busy week.

  • To-dos Everything that needs to get done this week. Example: prepare the client presentation.
  • My goals What you want to achieve by Friday. Example: finish the first draft of the project report.
  • Important Things you must not forget. Example: the budget meeting on Thursday.
  • Monday to Sunday One column per day to plan when you do what.
  • Notes Space for ideas, reminders and anything else.

For tasks with owners, priorities and status across a team, the to do list is a better fit.

Who the weekly planner works for

  • Personal planning Organize your own week with goals and tasks.
  • Small teams Plan the week together and see who does what on which day.
  • Students Balance lectures, assignments and exam preparation.
  • Weekly focus Decide on the few things that matter most this week.

Leaving room in your weekly plan

  • Plan the goals first Goals decide which to-dos really belong in the week.
  • Don't fill every day Leave room for the unexpected, otherwise the plan falls apart by Wednesday.
  • Use the colors Notes keep the color of their area, so you see at a glance which task serves which goal.
  • Start fresh each week Duplicate the board on Monday and carry over only what's still open.
