Collaboard supports deployment on Kubernetes platforms, including Red Hat OpenShift, VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid, Rancher RKE2, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS). For virtualised environments, Collaboard is available as an appliance for VMware, Proxmox and Microsoft Hyper-V.
The virtual appliance is the quickest way to get started. It includes a preconfigured Collaboard installation running in a lightweight Kubernetes cluster and is designed for organisations without their own Kubernetes infrastructure. The appliance does not offer the same autoscaling capabilities as a deployment on your own Kubernetes cluster. We recommend the appliance for installations with up to 500 licensed users. For larger installations, we recommend deploying Collaboard on your own Kubernetes cluster.
Collaboard scales from small teams to large organisations. We recommend the virtual appliance for up to 500 licensed users and a deployment on your own Kubernetes cluster for larger installations. Collaboard has also proven reliable in deployments serving more than 100,000 users, such as the Academic Cloud operated by GWDG in Germany.
Yes. Collaboard supports air-gapped deployments with no connection to the internet. This deployment model is used in sectors such as defence, critical infrastructure and research, where collaboration tools may need to operate entirely within isolated networks.
Yes. Collaboard is a fully featured, self-hosted online whiteboard with a feature set and user experience comparable to Miro. You can host it in your own data centre or a cloud environment of your choice. Teams can work with familiar whiteboard features, including sticky notes, templates, mind maps and facilitation tools, while all board content remains on infrastructure you control.
Yes. Collaboard supports single sign-on through SAML or OAuth 2.0, allowing users to sign in through your identity provider. Users and permissions can also be synchronised with your directory. You control how guest access works and whether boards are password-protected by default.
You do. Collaboard provides regular updates with new features and security patches, and your IT team installs them according to your own schedule. You can also use a separate staging environment to test updates before deploying them to production.
Both deployment options use the same application and offer the same core feature set. The main difference is where Collaboard is hosted: with an on-premises deployment, it runs on infrastructure you control. Some cloud-based integrations may be disabled in an on-premises setup, depending on your configuration and connectivity requirements.
Yes. You can explore Collaboard’s features using the cloud version or test it on your own infrastructure through a self-hosted proof of concept.
